DAY 1:  Arrive In Johannesburg

Arrive in Johannesburg, where you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel in Pretoria. Then enjoy time at leisure.

DAY 2:  Rovos Rail Two Night Journey

Today marks the beginning of your spectacular rail adventure from Pretoria to Cape Town. This afternoon board your luxury train at Pretoria’s private Capital Park Station. Then begin your journey, which spans some 1,600 kilometres and covers a variety of kaleidoscopic landscapes – from South Africa’s Highveld region, south through rolling grasslands to the acclaimed winery country surrounding Cape Town, with its stunning Table Mountain backdrop. On board, you may like to relax in your beautifully appointed suite, or perhaps unwind with a drink in the elegant Lounge Car or Observation Car.

DAY 3:  Rovos Rail Two Night Journey, Kimberley

Disembark in Kimberley for a city tour today. The Kimberley is famous for its diamond mining past, thanks to the first recorded discovery here in 1871. Visit the ‘Big Hole’ outside the city centre, the result of a diamond rush and thought to be the largest man-made hole in the world. Tour the adjacent open-air Mine Museum to retrace the steps of miners before re-boarding your train.

DAY 4:  Rovos Rail, Matjiesfontein, Cape Town

Early today, arrive in the historic Klein Karoo town of Matjiesfontein and visit the Transport Museum. Back on board, journey through a series of tunnels along the Hex River in the scenic Hex River Valley. On arrival in Cape Town, disembark and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 5:  Cape Town

Today enjoy Cape Town at your leisure. This evening, meet your APT Tour Director and fellow travelers at a Welcome Reception.

DAY 6:  Cape Town, Freedom Of Choice

Lying in the shadows of Table Mountain, Cape Town is a city of supreme natural beauty. Ride the aerial cableway to the top of Table Mountain for spectacular views, then stop by the District Six Museum and the Castle of Good Hope. Later, visit Constantia Winelands, take a ferry to Robben Island or set off on a township tour. This evening, join an African drumming session before a meal of Cape Malay cuisine.

DAY 7:  Cape Town, Cape Peninsula

On a full-day tour of the Cape Peninsula, travel along Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Continue on to historic Simon’s Town and see penguins up close at Boulders Beach before returning to Cape Town.

DAY 8:  Cape Town, Oudtshoorn

Set off through the coastal and forest landscapes of the Garden Route, stopping to explore the Cango Caves. Arrive in Oudtshoorn and enjoy a meal of traditional Karoo cuisine for dinner tonight.

DAY 9: Oudtshoorn, Freedom Of Choice, Knysna

Spend the morning on a meerkat safari or choose to enjoy an elephant feeding experience. Continue on to Knysna.

DAY 10:  Knysna, Featherbed Nature Reserve

DAY 11:  Knysna, Pumba Private Game Reserve

Continue along the Storms River mouth before travelling inland from Port Elizabeth to Pumba Private Game Reserve on the Eastern Cape. Here, the thick bushland is favoured by an abundance of Africa’s famous animals.

DAY 12:  Pumba Private Game Reserve

DAY 13:  Pumba Private Game Reserve, Kruger National Park

Transfer to Port Elizabeth and fly via Johannesburg to Kruger National Park, where you enter the private Sabi Sands Game Reserve. This is one of the best parks in which to spot leopard. Arrive at your lodge in time for sundowner drinks at dusk.
