DAY 1 AUCKLAND
Upon arrival Auckland make your way to the Thrifty counter in arrivals hall to collect your vehicle.
DAY 2 AUCKLAND/WAITOMO/ROTORUA
DRIVE TIME 2HRS 30MINS – 195Kms – Auckland-Waitomo
DRIVE TIME 2HRS – 156Kms – Waitomo-Rotorua
You continue your journey through rolling farmlands with a lunch stop at the glow worm caves of Waitomo. After your visit to the caves (Optional) make your way to Rotorua.
DAY 3 ROTORUA
Today you will have an opportunity to explore this volcanic region which offers an insight into how the Maori’s, the traditional owners developed carving skills & used the thermal land to their advantage.
A Great Sights Tour: includes Agrodome Show, Te Puia and Rainbow Springs & Hobbiton Movie Set.

DAY 4 ROTORUA – WELLINGTON
DRIVE TIME: 6HOURS – 451Kms
You continue South to New Zealand’s Capital, Wellington. Travelling via Huka Falls & Taupo you have an opportunity to view the Huka Falls & explore Lake Taupo and admire the scenery as you travel past Mount Ruapehu National Park.
DAY 5 WELLINGTON – KAIKOURA
DRIVE TIME 2HOURS – Picton-Kaikoura 156Kms
After leaving the car at Wellington Ferry terminal you will catch the Interislander Ferry to Picton and pick up your car for your journey south to Kaikoura renowned for its Whales.
Interislander Ferry: Departs Wellington 9:00am; Arrives Picton 12:15pm
DAY 6 KAIKOURA – CHRISTCHURCH
DRIVE TIME 2HOURS 46MINUTES – 188Kms
This morning you will have time to experience a Whale watch tour (see options).
At your leisure continue the short journey South to Christchurch.
DAY 7 CHRISTCHURCH – OMARAMA (MT COOK REGION)
DRIVE TIME 4HRS 30MINS – 332 Kms – Christchurch – Mount Cook
DRIVE TIME 1HR 20MINS – 94Kms – Mount Cook – Omarama
This morning you will travel across the Canterbury plains, through McKenzie Country and past the church of Good Shepherd at lake Tekapo before venturing down the road to the base of Mount Cook.
After exploring the Mount Cook area, make your way to your accommodation at Omarama.
DAY 8 OMARAMA – DUNEDIN
DRIVE TIME 3HOURS – 233Kms
You leave the mountain range behind you and head for the east coast and the Scottish capital of New Zealand – Dunedin.
DAY 9 DUNEDIN – TE ANAU
DRIVE TIME 4HRS – 298Kms
Today you journey across the South Island for your overnight accommodation at Te Anau
the gateway to the Fiordland.

DAY 10 TE ANAU – MILFORD SOUND – QUEENSTOWN
DRIVE TIME TE ANAU-MILFORD SOUND 1HR 40 MINS – 116Kms
DRIVE TIME MILFORD SOUND – QUEENSTOWN 4HRS – 290Kms
This morning you will journey deep into the very Scenic Fiordland Region.
Upon arrival Milford Wharf you will join Real Journeys Nature Cruise along the Milford Sound.
(Departure 10:30am Returns 12:15pm)
We Recommend: You may want to consider a return Coach into Milford Sound as the road can be tricky.
DAY 11 QUEENSTOWN
A day of leisure.
We recommend a Dart River Wilderness trip where the experience will leave you with everlasting memories.
We recommend Buffet Dinner at Skyline Gondola a very scenic experience
DAY 12 QUEENSTOWN – FRANZ JOSEF
DRIVE TIME 5HRS 40 MINS – 392Kms
The journey today will take you through Arrowtown, Cromwell and the lakes of Dunstan, Hawea & Wanaka. Travelling over the Haast Pass you will view amazing Thunder Creek Falls before arriving onto the West Coast. Passing Fox Glacier the biggest of the West Coast Glaciers you will make your way to Franz Josef Glacier for your overnight accommodation.
DAY 13 FRANZ JOSEF
You may like to walk the Glacier experience a Helihike or take a helicopter ride with a snow landing (optional).
DAY 14 FRANZ JOSEF – GREYMOUTH – CHRISTCHURCH
DRIVE TIME FRANZ JOSEF – CHRISTCHURCH – 5HRS – 388Kms
You continue north to Greymouth before heading across the Southern Alps through Arthurs Pass and across the Canterbury plains before arriving into Christchurch.
Leave the car at Greymouth and join what is regarded as the fifth most scenic train trip in the world – Tranz Alpine with Trans Scenic.
Tranz Alpine: Departs Greymouth 1:45pm; Arrives Christchurch 6:05pm
Upon arrival Christchurch Railway Station you will transferred to your accommodation.
DAY 15 CHRISTCHURCH -HOME
If you drove your car across the Southern Alps you will return the car before continuing your journey.
